Sanatorium Covered Bridge Rehabilitation

The Sanatorium Covered Bridge is being rehabilitated and moved to a new location approximately 1 mile upstream on Little Raccoon Creek. Work on the $1.34 million project started on July 30, 2008 and is scheduled to be completed by the end of December 2008. The project consists of  removing the roof and siding, replacement of defective frame structure, movement to the new location, replacing the roof and siding and any other repairs necessary for the bridge to be serviceable. The purpose of this website is to track the progress of the bridge rehabilitation.

December 6th

   
  December 6th  The construction on the Sanatorium / Adams bridge is approaching the end. The weather has not cooperated as two small snow storms have hit Parke county this week. Square & Level Construction is working in the snow and cold to complete the project.

Workers are installing the bridge siding. The Sanatorium Bridge was a white bridge, so the new bridge will also be painted white. The siding is currently primed and ready to be painted.

  December 13th  The construction on the Sanatorium / Adams bridge is on track to be completed by the end of December.  The final tasks include cleaning up the construction site, completing the roof, installing rails and applying fire retardant.  The siding is currently primed, but the painting will not occur until the spring.
   
 

   
  December 13th  The road for the ford has cleaned and new gravel has been spread on the road.  Straw has also been spread to prevent erosion.
