|
|
This new forum was created to discuss how religion plays a part in the life of Parke County residents. The forum was created after seeing the local churches come together to show their support for a cause.
The Parke County Commissioners considered a proposal at their July 16, 2007 meeting to allow wine to be sold under the temporary merchant license (TML), specifically during the Covered Bridge Festival. This was the third meeting the selling of wine had been discussed. Parke County, Inc. and some of the courthouse employees at the meeting spoke against the change. However, the commissioners had not received many calls for or against the proposal.
Between the July 16th meeting and August 6th meeting letters and petitions had been distributed to many of the churches in Parke County and some in the surrounding area. Petitions with more than 800 signatures opposing the selling of wine at the Covered Bridge Festival were received by the commissioners.
At the July 16th commissioner meeting a large group of residents and members of the Ministerial Association were on hand to speak against the selling of wine.
The purpose of this forum is to discuss how religion plays a part in the lives of Parke County Residents. I encourage any resident who would like to join the discussion to request a forum account and make a comment. |
